Center Fellow Qianfeng Lin Publishes Article on Identity Crisis among Migrant Children in China

June 10, 2019

China Center Fellow Qianfeng Lin (MSW’18), along with Mengluo Ren (MSW’18), and Mengdi Yang (MSW’19), recently published an article in the Journal of Asian Public Policy titled “Identity crisis among rural-to-urban migrant children in China: a proposal for school and government interventions.” In the article, the authors addressed the growing challenges for rural Chinese children to adapt to city life after moving with migrant parent workers from the countryside.

In a recent interview about this publication, Qianfeng mentioned that this article was developed from the team members’ participation in the Global Social Policy course, which was taught by Qin Gao, Professor and Director of the Columbia China Center for Social Policy. As a migrant child himself, Qianfeng was acutely aware of the issues encountered by migrant children in their acculturation process. With the encouragement of Prof. Gao, Qianfeng and his co-authors conducted research on this topic, analyzed the various barriers faced by migrant children and their potentially lifelong socio-economic consequences, and proposed policy solutions to overcome these barriers.
