Professor Xian Huang Gives Book Talk on Health Politics and Policy in China

November 13, 2020

China’s health care system has undergone dramatic changes in recent decades: On October 14, 2020, Xian Huang, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Rutgers University, gave a talk on her new book - “Social Protection under Authoritarianism: Health Politics and Policy in China” (Oxford University Press, 2020).

In the talk, Professor Huang combined multiple data sources to describe the transformation of China's social health insurance and analyze how it is distributed. She revealed that Chinese leaders have a strategy of "stratified expansion," perpetuating a particularly privileged program for the elites while developing a modest health provision for the masses.
